  About İstanbul
Istanbul is one of the most visited places in the world, a central hub connecting East and West, blending the past and the future, bringing together cultures and people from all over the world. As it has been in many other civilizations in the past, Istanbul is today Turkey’s cultural and economic capital. Attracting millions of visitors each year Istanbul has also become an attractive destination for international meetings with its world class accommodation and convention facilities. As ‘World’s Number 1 Congress Destination’ for 500 and more participants in 2011 & 2012 Istanbul is an ideal city to hold congresses.

    Travel Information
The fastest and consequently the least tiring way to get to Turkey is by plane. All major airlines have direct flights to Istanbul.

    How to get to Istanbul
Istanbul has two international airports: one on the European side (Atatürk Airport) and one on the Asian side (Sabiha Gökçen Airport). Both can be used but Atatürk Airport is located much closer to the congress venue.

Istanbul Atatürk Airport is located 24 km southeast of Istanbul. You can use airport buses (Havatas), busses, taxi, subway or private transfer to go to the city.
Airport shuttle buses (HAVATAS)
There are buses every hour to and from Taksim square (city centre) for  12 TL (equal to appr. 3 €). For detailed information: www.havatas.com

Taxi
Available at taxi stands or hailed on the street. In Turkey taxis are colored yellow and have meters. The journey will cost approximately 55 TL to 70 TL (equal to 14 € - 18 €) depending on the route the driver will use and will take about 45 minutes. The meter in the car applies and charges as Turkish Liras (TL), please note credit cards are not yet valid in taxis. The taxi rates are same all day and night long.

Bus
Public transportation (IETT) departs from Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) to central Istanbul. For detailed information: www.sgairport.com/havaalani/eng/ulasim/iett.asp
Public Transport
Istanbul Public Transportation is efficient, convenient and safe with its large number of choices of vehicles but may be very difficult to navigate if you do not know the language. Thus we suggest the use of taxis as they are very economically priced compared to most European cities.

  Getting around in Istanbul
The easiest way to get around Istanbul is by taxi. Make sure you have some Turkish liras with you. No taxi driver will accept credit cards. You will find ATMs and a currency exchange office inside the airport. We advise you to only take official taxis. They are bright yellow and have a sign on the roof with the word taksi on it. Furthermore, their taxi registration number (and sometimes company logo) should be clearly visible on the front doors and the roof. Most importantly, all official taxis have digital meters.

A trip from Atatürk Airport to Sultanahmet will set you back around TL 60-70; to Taksim you may have to pay TL 90-100.
